Not so exciting Jul 03, 2007
By Kirsten Stephenson Upon first inspection, they look like big blue fisherman's gloves with aquarium rocks glued to them. I kid you not, that is what the abrasive surface is---blue aquarium rocks. I laughed. Out loud.
So we borrow a few potatoes and apples from a neighbor and get to work. I have to say, the suckers worked on the potatoes. Now, keep in mind that I had to WORK to get the skin off---I had broken out in a sweat by the time I finished one of them---and little blue aquarium rocks dotted my sink when I was finished, but, lo and behold, the skin was gone. We then used the handy dandy French fry cutter and that little sucker is dangerous---very easy to cut yourself so be careful.
The apples were a lot harder to do and when finished they resembled a peach because the outside of the pulp became fuzzy during all the sanding, ha ha.
Soooooo, in sum: the Tatermitts are basically sanding gloves with rocks on them that will gradually come off as you work away on potatoes. Eventually, I expect all the rocks will come off and we'll be out of business BUT until then, I guess they'll work. Periodically. On special occasions.

Tater mitts don't work Nov 15, 2007
By P. McCuen I was so excited when I got my tater mitts, I really hate peeling potatoes and was looking forward to peeling a potato in less than 8 seconds. Don't believe it. This is the worst gadget thing I have ever gotten. This is even worse than the "Epilady" (if you bought one you know what I am talking about!) The box is misleading, It doesn't say a thing about having to boil the potatoes for 5-6 minutes before you use the gloves. Even after boiling the potatoes the things don't work well.
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Deceiving Nov 07, 2007

They forget to mention that you have to boil the potatoes before you can peel them with the tater mitts. I'm not in the habit of parboiling potatoes, so I will just stick to my knives for peeling my potatoes. I don't recommend them.

Just a gag gift to me Nov 06, 2007
By S. Post I got these as a gift - kind of an inside joke. They don't really work like they are supposed to. Not in 8 seconds. I guess if you wanted to spend 1 minute or two peeling the potato, and then have it look like it had been knawed on then it's worth it. To me, I think I'll just stick with my knife. And they were very hard to clean all the potato out. I agree them look like fish tank rocks just glued on to the gloves. I'm still keeping them though because of the inside joke thing between some friends.
