I've had the Starfrit potato chipper for a few years now, still works well and does what it claims to do! The unit has a little suction holder so that it does not slide when you cut fries and I can cut fairly big chunks without a problem, so has maintained its sharp edge. We go through phases of loving oven fries and I did the chipper out of the cupboard and it always works as good as new. We use it for making yam oven fries (toss the chipped yams in olive oil with some lemon pepper, 400 degree oven for about 15 minutes and serve with a tsatziki). Great gadget! The only critique I can offer is the size of the unit means I often have to quarter yams to have them fit. Although, I suppose if the unit were bigger, it would require much more force to cut the yam. Overall, very pleased with this little tool!

Item worked wonderful to cut french fries the first time I used it. Piece to the blade broke off the second time I used it about a week later. Guess you get what you pay for.

Don't buy it, get the Borner V-Slicer instead Jul 05, 2008 By PA Mom
I bought this a few weeks ago and used it about 8 times. The first time I used it, it cut through the potato like butter. From the second time on, it seemed to get dull very quickly. By the 8th time, one of the blades had popped out. I sent it back for a refund and purchased the Borner V-Slicer (Swissmar Borner V-Slicer Plus). This works GREAT and does a variety of shapes and sizes. Have been using it like crazy and no sign of dulling...it still cuts through a hard potato like butter and clean up is very easy, just rinse and store in the caddy to drip dry. One of the reviews on it is from a woman who has had one for ten years and the blades still aren't dull. Comes with a comfortable tool for gripping the veggies so your fingers don't go near the blades. Only takes up a few inches of space on the counter top, and that's where it's going to stay because I can see myself using it every day.

This little kitchen cutter creates perfect french fries. Really not a time saver if you are looking for quick preparation. I can cut & shape a potatoe faster with a knife, also cleaning the chipper is more time consuming then wiping off a cutting board & knife. But if you want perfect shaped fries that are eye pleasing to serve to company or family 'especially children' then this is the way to go! I also purchased the T-fell Acti-fry which makes french fries a little more healthier then deep frying them. Everyone loves my french fries now because you only use one tablespoon of oil and they crispy up and taste great! That is why I purchased the star-frit chipper to assist in making the fries 'picture perfect'! Starfrit 93123 Potato Chipper
