5I LOVE IT!!  Oct 10, 2010 By Melanie Russell
I bought mine from CVS, and I tried it today. I live alone, and HATE to cook, but I love spaghetti. When my husband was alive, I made it often. It was too much trouble to make it just for myself.
I measured out two servings, and cooked it 13 minutes in the microwave.
The pasta came out perfect. I would highly recommend this.

5It works fine for me  Sep 29, 2010 By Thomas A. Pulaski
After reading online all the horror stories from people who tried to order the Pasta Boat from a TV ad and were not told of the silly outragious shipping charges till AFTER they placed the order. I went here to Amazon and got it with normal Fedex charges alittle over $3.00. It came yesterday and I tried it today with no complaints. I did stop the micro a minute short of the full time suggested just to check and it was more than enough. I made 2 servings.

2Creates more problems than it solves  Nov 02, 2010 By A.M.Boughey "Poetmaster"
I bought this to try, as we tend to cook and eat quite a lot of pasta.
The way I see it this product is probably intended for people who (a) don't know how to cook (b) live alone (c) watch a lot of infomercials

PRO's
You can cook, strain and serve your pasta from one container, and store leftovers if you wish

CONS's
Will not cook large amounts of pasta
Takes forever in a standard microwave - 23 minutes for 2 cups of Penne!
Due to container design, bottom wells trap starch and prevent proper draining, leaving pasta stodgy
Inadequate recipe and cooking time guides for different types of pasta, and different wattage ovens.
Also cooks rice apparently, (although no measuring guide or cooking times)

Basically this was a good idea that suffers from a flawed design, little or no instructions, and long cooking times.

It takes about 11-14 minutes to boil pasta (to al dente) in a regular saucepan, drain, rinse and serve.

25 minutes in a microwave is a joke for stodgy, starchy pasta

5Best Kitchen Gadget/Microwave Cooker You'll Own!  Mar 14, 2011 By Dan Kap
Before I buy anything priced much over $1 (!), I read as many Amazon reviews on it as I can. Because of a few negative reviews for factors that seemed important to me, I almost didn't order it. What a mistake that would have been! I really, really like this item. Although I've only used it to cook pasta thus far, you can steam all sorts of vegetables in it according to the brief cookbook that comes with it, using the included steamer rack. I hate vegetables, so I've never tried it. So my comments apply only to pasta. And after all, this is a pasta boat, and not a vegetable boat. The pasta comes out perfectly; I'd thought this was an item that would take some experimenting to get it right. After all, who ever heard of cooking pasta in a microwave? Following the excellent instructions in the cookbook, it worked well the very first time I tried it. And I'm as lousy and lazy a cook as they come. And I hate cooking in the first place. Which is why I love the pasta boat so much. Why? 1. It's simple to use. 2. The pasta cooks quickly, and it makes excellent pasta. 3. As the hype says, it eliminates that heavy, bulky pot that you'd normally be using. 4. It eliminates use of a colander to drain your pasta. 5. With leftovers, just stick the whole business in your frige to store your leftovers for another time. 6. And for me, the biggie: it's a cinch to clean. I hate washing stuff. I still have dirty dishes and drip pans from Thanksgiving. Maybe someone out there would like to come over and we could have a dish-washing party.

Let me address some of the complaints I recall from some of the other reviews. Some said the lifting handles got hot in the microwave. Mine get warm, but that's the worst it's been. Someone said something about the pasta clumping. Mine never has, and I've never stopped to even stir the stuff during cooking. And that really surprised me--why it doesn't clump. But it doesn't.

Improvements? The lifting handles double as clever measures for measuring out spaghetti. Each one measures for two portions. For a single guy like me, I'd like to have seen one that measures for two, and the one on the other side made of a smaller inside diameter to measure for one. I use a quarter though, and its diameter is just about right for me. And if I don't have a quarter, I use two dimes and a nickle...OK, just kidding.

This item is ideal for any single guy like me who 1. hates to cook, 2. loves pasta, 3. is lazy, 4. and hates to clean stuff. But married people, and those with families would enjoy it too. If you tell your friends about it as I have, you'll get interesting reactions--no one can conceive how you can cook pasta in a microwave. But you can. It works. And it works very well.

5Love It!  Jan 15, 2011 By Tender Moon
First off, let it be said that I've always hated cooking pasta. Find the pot that's always in the far reaches of the cabinet which makes a lot of noise that traumatizes the resident cat. Boil the water and then watch it while the pasta cooks so it doesn't boil over. Then, find the colander which is also never easily accessible. The whole process was just annoying and I cooked pasta infrequently. Enter the "Pasta Boat." I had read a good review earlier in the week and figured since it was inexpensive I'd give it a try. Just finished cooking 6 servings of elbows that turned out perfectly. Read the book, follow the instructions...a no brainer. If you're cooking for ten maybe not so good, but it's wonderful for one or two people. Not a thing I'd change about it. I'm delirious with glee!
