Great little mandolin! Jun 06, 2010 This is not the most high tech or fancy mandolin ever, but its ease of use makes up for it entirely. It's not the most sturdy and the slices aren't perfectly even but they're good enough for instances when the thickness doesn't have to be perfect: salads, sandwiches, any regular, every day dish. Maybe if you were making homemade french fries or something where it really mattered that the thickness was exact, then this wouldn't be the best tool. But really I use this almost every day and for just cooking regular dishes at home it works great.
Also really great if you only have to cook for 1 or 2, OR if you only need to slice one thing for a recipe. We also have a Cuisinart food processor (which we LOVE) but it's not worth the set up if we only need to slice 1 thing. This is where this thing comes in really handy. AND it'd dishwasher safe!
I bought the kevlar gloves with it after reading the reviews and I'm glad that I did. No sliced fingers!

I don't use it. Sep 11, 2009 I often times don't write reviews, but I always read them. I bought the slicer and the julienne Kyocera. I cook a lot, almost every night, but I found that these are just sitting in my drawers because the device that you are supposed to poke into the vegetable to hold it while you slice doesn't work well; it just doesn't really hold it. So then I found myself holding it with my bare hand until I gently nicked my finger and got a hairline cut. When I julienne, I just use that peeler looking device; it works much better and is much less expensive. For thin slicing, I use a good knife...

perfect julienne veggies!! Nov 10, 2008 With this you get professional thin (amazon description says 1/8" but the one that arrived was 1/10" or 0.1" compared to 0.09" for the regular julienne slicer, I don't think that makes it much different to advertise this product as giving you a "wide" julienne... the size difference is so minute that you probably won't be able to tell) julienne cuts easily and fast! It is amazing.
The finger protector is not perfect but works fine when the vegetable gets to about 2 inches high or less. Obviously, it will leave about a 1/3 inch stump you'll have to either cut yourself or use it for another time. I say this because the julienne pieces are so beautifully uniform that you'd probably want to not mix anything else :)
What's great about this product is that the blade is made from ceramic with some kind of high tech diamond sharpened technology and it sure is sharp! And they don't rust or corrode and they advertise that it stays sharp 10 times longer than steel blades.
Highly recommend! My only regret is that I did not get the slicer together, I'm going to get the double-sided slicer, for vegetables like onions and peppers which can't be julienned.
I think I could make great hashbrown with this stuff in no time!!!
