Good standard-sized rollerball refill May 29, 2010

(EDIT: Though this refill fits most of my rollerball pens, it is actually slightly longer than the standard size, and does not fit in some pens.)
I still recommend Parker's [proprietary] rollerball system over others because it is more consistent and less likely to skip over imperfect or unclean paper, but I gave Kyocera's 5 stars for 2 reasons:
1. The metal needle reduces or eliminates that annoying rattle which sometimes happens with the flexible plastic needle on Schmidt and other brands (plastic needles wobble back and forth, and rattle against the inside of the pen as you write). Even Schmidt's metal versions of their rollerball refills still have a plastic needle end.
2. Kyocera's rollerball, though not quite as good as Parker's, is the universal rollerball size. Parker's system is completely incompatible with any other pens. Pelikan makes a good all-metal wiggle-free refill, but it isn't quite the standard size and doesn't fit most pens.
Kyocera's rollerball is, to me, indistinguishable from Schmidt's in terms of the writing experience (other than the dreaded rattle). Don't toss your Schmidts prematurely for this one, but it's a structurally better choice for the next time the option comes up and doesn't cost much.
great for the price and quality Jun 04, 2011
By Anna Banana buy these at the same time as the Kyocera pen. They are handy and practical, especially if you're writing is on a roll!
