Maybe three and a half stars Aug 05, 2010 This grinder is good when you first get it and simply to the point yet elegant in it's zen style. I have used it often for many years probably about three or four, and I used it alot; before it died on me. Pointers: you will probably lose the cap, so don't be sad when you do, but it's a good thing to keep. Avoid herbs or too/many oily seeds, it will damage the mechanism over time, but if you want to use the thing for only a few years never mind.. consider a mortar and pestle for those kind of jobs... I grind my flax seeds dry in a simple blender....there might be a less agressive option here. avoid getting moisture inside to often and or manhandling the thing at it will probably last you longer. the top is atop feels more like plastic, I think ceramic is the burrs inside. if it was a tad cheaper, had these warning labels on it, and maybe a less plasticy top, I would consider giving it 4.5-5 stars

Good for Flaxseed Jun 10, 2010 I use this mill for flaxseed. It does a good job of grinding the flaxseed into a "meal" consistency, not as fine as flour, but fine enough for my purposes. The ground flaxseed is undetectable when I stir it into my oatmeal. I even put it on top of pancakes, and it doesn't seem gritty.
I like that the mill has no metal parts that could corrode. The container is attractive glass, and the top is plastic with a ceramic mill. So far, it's easy to clean and easy to use. I also like the mill-on-top design and the fact that it has a cap. However, if you were to get some stubborn food stuck in the mill part, it may not be easy to clean it out.
Here's what I don't like about it: It takes a few moments to find the little niche to pry the cap off, and then the cap is unattached and could potentially get lost. Also, when it comes to grinding flaxseed, I want at least a teaspoon, not just a little spray. I typically count 100 twists each morning when I grind the seed. This makes my wrist tired. A device with a crank handle would probably be easier on the wrist, but I think I would still prefer this Kyocera mill for its compact size and convenience.
All in all, this was a good purchase for flaxseed. Despite the minor downsides, I'm still giving it 5 stars.
Fine Pepper Jun 02, 2010 I wanted something that would grate pepper to a find powder, this does the job well! We don't like that it has a separate cap to keep up with, but other than that, I'm pleased with it. I also liked that it came with the option to buy a white one.. if we want to buy a matching salt shaker, but frankly, I have enough salt shakers at the moment.

Save your money! May 25, 2010 I've owned several of these grinders for a couple of years now; out of the 8 I bought, I have 3 that are still in one piece. The problems? The rotating grinder heads have all broken laterally. They also have a quality control problem in that the same sized grinding heads do not grind the same. In short, a good idea with third-rate manufacturing materials holding the ceramic.

Not good for Celtic Sea Salt May 07, 2010 This grinder does not work on unprocessed Celtic Sea Salt.
It works no better/no worse than other grinders on pepper.
