4NOT for pepper!  Jul 27, 2010
I rated the yellow-top Kyocera very good with its ceramic grinder mechanism for salt and small spices, BUT it won't even swallow a peppercorn. It's round and round and round in the circle game with nary a flake of pepper in sight.

Why not alert buyers to this predictable issue?

1Cannot grind black pepper  Jul 15, 2010
I am very disappointed with this product, as it is not able to grind black peppercorns. I am a big fan of Kyocera's Fine Mill (looks the same as the Coarse grinder, but with a white top instead), which works beautifully and creates an even and fine grind. However, the Coarse grind version is so constructed that it actually DOES NOT allow normal black peppercorns into the grinding mechanism. The grooves in the grinder are too small to "grab" the peppercorns. So nothing comes out of the grinder, regardless how many turns you do. I returned my first unit, believing that it was simply a problem with the particular grinder I received, but the replacement unit was no better. Perhaps the Coarse grinder is made for something other than black peppercorns, but nowhere in product documentation or packaging is this highlighted or even mentioned. I am very surprised about this product deficiency, as Kyocera otherwise is a good brand. I'm very happy with their ceramic knifes, and, as I said, the Fine version of the grinder.

5best grinder in my kitchen  Jun 13, 2010
I really like these grinders - so much that I'm going to buy two more. When the lid is on they're complete closed so everything inside and out stays clean. They're easy to use, and spices grind nicely. I'm using them for cumin, cardomon, coriander, and salt, and will probably add pepper and flax seed for the next two.

5Coarse Yellow Mill works well with cracked peppercorn  Jul 31, 2009
It's true, the full peppercorns you buy in the local grocery store are too big for this mill. The smaller, cracked peppercorns work GREAT. However, a cracked peppercorn is exposed to the elements and degrades more quickly than a full peppercorn.

1Does Not work with small peppercorns  Jan 31, 2009
I read some of the previous reviews about peppercorn size.

I bought the three pack: White for sea salt, black for another spice (both white and black are identified as FINE) and the yellow for the 5 peppercorn package elsewhere available on amazon.

The white and black work well for what I selected them for.

I purchased the smallest 5 peppercorn package I could fine and assumed the COURSE grind of Yellow would do the job.

Reality - it just spins and never touches a corn.

Now I'm back looking to purchase another pepper grinder and trying to figure out what to use this YELLOW one on.

Do NOT purchase for peppercorns!
