1Good blade, but poor design and FRAGILE  Oct 14, 2008 By John D. Hearn
I have a Kyocera ceramic chef's knife that I have been using for about 7 years as my primary kitchen knife and I've never had to sharpen it. It is almost as sharp now as the day I bought it. Needless to say, I love that knife. About two months ago, I found myself in need of a new peeler, and given my fondness for the Kyocera knife, decided to give this ceramic peeler a try. Sadly, it really is not the same class of utensil.

I use the peeler primarily for zesting citrus fruits for use in cocktails, and the ceramic blade handled that job reasonably well. The plastic channel zesters on either side of the blade (for making, say, a lemon twist) are basically worthless. I already had an OXO tool for that purpose, so no worries. But yesterday, after maybe 10 uses in 2 months, the plastic frame that holds the blade snapped into three pieces, rendering the whole thing useless. I'll be replacing it with the OXO Y-Peeler.

5Great mango peeler  May 26, 2007 By John David
Great peeler for mangoes and other thicker-peel fruits and vegetables. Holds its very sharp edge a long time.

4Really like it!  Jul 16, 2010 By Delia
I really love this peeler! I like the shape of the y-type peelers and will never go back to the other traditional kind. The blade is nice and sharp and works well on everything I've tried so far-- apples, zucchini, eggplant, cucumbers, etc. I was quite disappointed when someone else put it in the dishwasher (I guess outside of the silverware basket), and it fell to the bottom and melted on the heat ring. This is not necessarily a defect in the manufacturing, but a precaution on exposing it to high heat-- make sure it is secured in the silverware basket if you put it in the dishwasher! The peeler still works fine, but I will probably replace it eventually for one that does not have a dishwasher-heat-ring burnt indentation in the handle.

5How to Introduce Yourself to Ceramic Blades  Apr 27, 2010 By fredtownward "The Analytical Mind; Have Brain; Will Travel"
The fact that you are even reading this suggests that you already know the arguments in favor of ceramic blades. Ceramic blades are harder than steel blades, can be made much sharper than steel blades, hold their edge ten times longer than steel blades, are lighter than steel blades, won't brown foods, transfer a metallic taste or smell, or rust.

You probably also know the disadvantages of ceramic blades. Unlike steel blades ceramic blades can chip or break so you want to avoid dropping them, tossing them in a sink or kitchen drawer, or arguably even washing them in a dishwasher. (Most ceramic peelers come in fitted plastic packing material that can be saved.)

So the only remaining question is which peeler to choose. A Kyocera Ceramic Y Peeler is available in six different handle colors.

(Another handle color is only available in this special set Kyocera Revolution Series Ceramic 5 1/2 Inch Santoku Knife and Y Peeler Set Pink Handle)

A different Y-shaped Kyocera Ceramic Swiss Peeler without the plastic side corers is also available.

Right-handers can choose from another quartet of peelers:
Kyocera Vertical Ceramic Peeler Black Handle,
Kyocera Vertical Ceramic Peeler Red Handle,
Kyocera Mega Ceramic Peeler Black Handle,
Kyocera Mega Ceramic Peeler Red Handle.

Finally, an adjustable Kyocera Ceramic Perfect Peeler is also available.

Note: Kyocera Revolution Series Ceramic paring knives are also available in matching handle colors:
Kyocera Revolution Series Ceramic 3 1/7 Inch Paring Knife Black Handle,
Kyocera Revolution Series Ceramic 3 1/7 Inch Paring Knife Blue Handle,
Kyocera Revolution Series Ceramic 3 1/7 Inch Paring Knife Green Handle,
Kyocera Revolution Series Ceramic 3 1/7 Inch Paring Knife Orange Handle,
Kyocera Revolution Series Ceramic 3 1/7 Inch Paring Knife Red Handle,
Kyocera Revolution Series Ceramic 3 1/7 Inch Paring Knife Yellow Handle,
and one other blade color:
Kyocera Revolution Series Ceramic 3 1/7 Inch Paring Knife Black Handle, Black Blade.
