good, but only works in one direction ... Dec 26, 2008
By f. Recently ordered this, hoping its blades wouldn't dull over time, like typical metal peelers ... this peeler has a single ceramic blade, which is quite sharp and peels thin sections.
But, the single blade means you can only use in one direction - away from you, if you're right-handed and toward you, if left-handed.
I hadn't really analyzed my veggie peeling directions before but have discovered, depending on the vegetable, some I peel away and some toward.
I briefly thought the blade could be removed and flipped. It can be removed. But it can not be flipped (pegs on the blade and holes in the handle are different-sized).
Kinda disappointed that the blade doesn't flip or it's not a double-blade or they don't offer a left-hand version.
If you peel all your veggies in one direction (the "correct" direction, for your handedness), then this seems like it's a decent peeler.

The Right Tool, Right Feel, and SHARP! Dec 30, 2009
By Craig Sones Cornell

As a meal creator and culinary artist, I am always looking for the "right" tool for the tasks that make up my food prep routines. And did I ever find it in this Kyocera peeler. It just floats through peels thick and thin with such ease. It makes this often mundage chore fun. It fits in my relatively big hand and in my wife's petite one like an extension of our intention. Wow.

does what's intended but feels cheap Aug 31, 2010

Good peeler if you're right handed and peel away from your body. It feels really cheap but that ceramic blade makes for a perfect peeler. It is very sharp so it peels a thin piece and it is working in a low impact environment and won't shatter or chip. I'm very pleased with it, but the ergonomics need work and it feels like a cheap piece of plastic. In terms of functionality, I have no complaints.

Only peels in one direction May 03, 2010
By Robert Louis You can't tell from the product description or the pictures, but this peeler only has a blade on one side, which means it only works in one direction. This is a big problem for a peeler, and I don't know why they would do this except to save some money. I almost returned it, but decided to keep it and see how it performs. So far it hasn't been much better than the metal peeler I have. The problem with metal peelers is that they lose their edge over time and you can't sharpen them. Ceramic blades stay sharp a lot longer so I thought it would be an improvement, but it isn't since it is basically half a peeler only.

Disappointed! Mar 27, 2009

I was bummed that this Kyocera peeler had one blade which only allows you to peel away from you--for right-handed people like me. I wanted to use the peeler like a small utility knife to peel, for instance, apples for pies. To do so, I skin the apple by moving the blade towards me. Can't do that with this peeler. Although I really like the ceramic blade, I'll have to go back to my Messermeister serrated peeler. Kyocera, please make a 2-way vertical peeler!
