They really DO work, but look around for the knockoff brands Nov 01, 2006
By Katy Lake I picked up a dozen in Home Depot for less than $5. Same concept, just a lot cheaper!
Two of them are holding a huge heavy shelf in my kitchen. The hole they make depends upon the weight of what they're holding. I'm sure it's pinhole sized if you're hanging something that weighs a few ounces (in which case, you don't need this - use a pushpin!)
The holes from the shelf are bigger than pin-sized, but it IS a heavy shelf. The hole is still WAY smaller than the hole I'd make using any kind of a hook that would hold such a heavy shelf.
It also takes a little practice to figure out where to hang the hooks (the drop of the hook is below where you might want the thing to actually hang.) This is a small detail, but if you need two of these things and you don't do it right, your object is gonna be crooked. But on the bright side, you won't have a huge hole to patch when you redo it!
Recommended product (but look around for the knockoffs.)

They really do work!! Aug 09, 2006
By mom of 3 great kids These hooks are incredible!! I have used them throughout my home to hang heavy art work and mirrors, and the best part is that I can do it myself without waiting for my husband to get out his drill, hammer, leveler, etc. I love them so much we have given them as house warming gifts, and everyone that has received them from us has been as amazed as we are by how effective and easy they are to use! If you want a secure and quick way to hang anything on your walls without making a huge hole use these hooks!

Where Have These Been All My Life! Sep 07, 2006

These Hercules Hooks are absolutely incredible. I wish I had them before my husband put many, many holes in our walls with anchors and screws. If I want to relocate anything, he tries to patch up the hole, but it always shows. These hooks make only a pin sized hole! I hung a shelf unit in my bathroom and put books on it. It is still there.
Incredible product and well worth the price!

STOP! Need a 3" CLEARANCE Behind Wall & Consider Knock Off Versions Jan 15, 2010
By Woodlandtrails The point of a drywall hook is to be able to hang something ANYWHERE on drywall.
Why would people BUY a drywall hook?
To avoid nails (don't want to use tools like a hammer)
To avoid big nail holes left when nail is removed (in their own homes or if rent)
To hang something on DRYWALL to avoid the big hassle drilling special nails into a cement/cement block wall
HINT: These hooks essentially work only on interior NON-insulated walls with at least a 3" clearance behind the wall. Billy Mays and the Amazon product description neglect to state these hooks NEED at least a 3" CLEARANCE behind the drywall to work=Oops! If they had, a lot of people could have avoided the product but than that would reduce profits.
That clearance requirement means the hooks don't work behind studs, on plaster walls, on walls with insulation, or on drywall with a cinder block/cement behind it (NOT go into concrete/block but people did expect the slim hook to fit between the cement & drywall) or on pocket door walls. This product does leave a hole similar in size to a nail or bigger if a lot of twisting was needed to get it in or trying to get it into a wall it can't go into. These hooks can be more difficult to twist one into a wall than it would be to just grab a hammer and nails. They also neglect to mention the hooks stick out quite a bit from the wall and not all things look good hanging from them because of this.
And this product is overpriced on Amazon. Ebay sells these galore in all amounts with laser and free shipping. Google around for better price.
That said, if you want to buy it, compare prices with the knock off versions
Knock offs are called:
1. He-Man Hooks Says EXACTLY like Hurcules Google HE-man hooks
2. Monkey Hooks Sold at Amazon (type Monkey Hooks)(have FLUSH mount also) purchase at monkeyhook dot com, Home Depot ACE Hardware, Harbor Freight Tools, True Value and Do-It-Best stores
The company emailed me and said "all Monkey Hook varieties are designed to work on 1/2" or 5/8" drywall where there is no stud. That's the only way we test the products. There should be 3" of clearance behind the drywall for our product to work."
3. Super Hook Sold at Amazon (type Super hook or Super hook No Tools Needed! Holds up to 80 lbs.!
4. Express Hookz Set of 12 Multi-Purpose Drywall Hooks This one a different looking but same concept
5. Hero Hooks
Google "DRYWALL hooks" or "drywall clips" for more knock offs.
