3They work, but with a draw-back...  Jun 30, 2009 By A. Hoier "adamh"
I will say, I didn't get these from Amazon, but from my local walmart store (UPC# 735541104053) and yes, they work GREAT, but, after a couple months of using them? The "nobles" (spiked edges of the balls) started discoloring...I was like hmm....OK maybe it's just "lint" or something, from rubbing against the clothing? Well, I looked at the bottom inside edge of my new-ish drier and there's a blue haze inside the dryer....I figured hmm, no pens have exploded in there since we got it, so it must be those darned dryer balls "fading" - in fact, I took the drier balls with me to the laundromat (drier was out of commission getting fixed that day) and well, you know how the laundromats have the clear windows? Well, it was kinda weird, cause hte balls kinda just sat at the bottom of the drier, near the door, and "jiggled around" and so then I could really see the "friction"/contact the balls were making. And that's even after "tossing" them into the far/back of the deep laundromat drier.

So yea, it's weird I don't know how they do their magic so well, since they primarily seemed to wiggle around the lower corner area of the drier machine "window" - I'm guessing that's what caused them to discolor (and my drier interior to turn blue) - due to the heat, combined with the "friction" of the balls on that plastic interior?

But yes, I won't totally knock them, since they do bring out very soft towels...

Note: I've heard the balls are made from PVC material, which will "gas" off chemicals or something, which is why some people dislike them.

5Even better than expected...  Nov 11, 2008 By JAS "JAS"
I recently bought a down comforter from Overstock, that recommended dry cleaning only. No way was I dry cleaning it. I machine washed it once and found that some of the down clumped up and would not dry completely. I purchased these dryer balls, hoping it would fix the problem. Not only did the comforter dry faster, but it fluffed the comforter up, to perfection. I couldn't been more thrilled!!

4Works  Jan 15, 2009 By Nuknuk
They like prickly balls and much heavier than tennis balls. They are odorless, and depending on your preference, you might miss the pleasant smell of your favorite dryer sheets. They do work. It makes the clothes fluffy and also lessen the static without using any chemicals.

But if you use it with a little load, it sounds as if somebody put a pair of sneakers in the dryer.

1Do not buy!  Dec 24, 2009 By Lisa C. Hunter
I bought these dryer balls hoping they would stand up to all the claims on the packaging, but they didn't. I have used these a total of 3 times and they have split at the seams. They also make your clothes smell like rubber. I am very very disappointed and plan on replacing them with wool dryer balls.

4Yes, They Work  Oct 09, 2009 By T. Tupper "dawnhasclass"
I decided to try these in an effort to a)save money, b)reduce drying time, and c)reduce the chemicals used in our laundry. I was skeptic, but with a 2 year performance guarantee I figured I didn't have that much to lose. I bought three sets of these (for a total of $14.95) because we have large loads of laundry. I adjust the number of balls in the dryer according to the size of the load. You definitely need six with a large load, but they really work. I have had them for about two months and have used them with almost every load. I even did the comparison test versus fabric softener. The only item that still seems to be a bit stiff are the towels, but ours are really thick and large. They're still soft enough, but not quite as soft as with softener. Everything else is equal to or even softer than when I used softener. Jeans even come out super soft. I couldn't believe it until I tried them for myself, and I am so glad that I did. We have the energy efficient dryer from Whirlpool which did a fantastic drying job before, but these balls even helped in that department. Oh, and before when I dried jeans and other pants with this dryer the legs would get all twisted together. Not anymore! Same thing with long sleeves, so things don't get as wrinkled. I paid attention to the amount of dryer lint to see if there was an increase because of the friction that the little massage tips create. I can't see any increase there, so they don't seem to be causing any extra wear on our clothes. Also, the balls seem to be standing up well to use. So far I have only found minor flaws in their use: a)they can get hidden in sheets, sleeves or legs but not often, b)they really hurt if one pops out and lands on a bare toe (happened to me yesterday lol) and c)the towels not being quite as soft but still acceptable, d)there is a bit of static cling with fabrics with polyester. It does go away immediately out of the dryer. All in all, I would say these are very well worth the money spent. I'll never go back.
