Not yet ready for prime time May 13, 2007
By Ancient Mariner I have a 45-pound Norwegian Elkhound who is skittish when I clip her claws because I've hit the quick twice over the past few years. I bought this new clipper hoping that it would solve my problem. The idea behind the clipper is good: it detects the different temperatures in the claw depending on whether the sensor is over the quick, close to the quick, or over "quickless" claw. Unfortunately I found the following problems. First, when scanning the claw you have to move rather slowly from the paw side of the nail to the tip in order to see the change in the LEDs (red-over quick, yellow-near quick, green-safe to cut). I couldn't keep my dog's paw steady enough to scan the nail. Second, when I placed the clipper over the tip of the claw that I knew was safe I found that the cutter isn't sturdy enough to clip her claw. The cutting blade twisted away from the portion of the blade that the nail fits through. I'm now trying to find out how to return the clipper. It still needs work.
Now, to be frank, if you have a dog that doesn't have tough claws this may work, but I wouldn't guarantee it.
It's a pity this product performs this way because this is something that is seriously needed and I'd buy another version (if it works) in a flash.

Difficult to use Apr 19, 2007
By Jean Levers I tried a number of different ways to get this product to work. It always kept the red light on until completely off of the nail. I returned the product with great difficulty

A piece of Garbage and a waste of money Jan 04, 2008
By J. Near I bought this pet tool and tried it on several of
my dogs. It does not work. It would turn red when I just barely got it on the tip of the nail and it would not cut at all! I tried it on one dog that has white nails and I could see the quick, but it would turn red way before I even got to the quick.
I should have just thrown the money away instead of buying this. Very disappointed.

Doesn't work like they claim it does Jan 16, 2008
By Wolfepaw We bought this product so we wouldn't have to take our dog to the vet every time we needed her nails clipped. She only has one clear claw (the others are black) and we could see the blood supply in her clear claw while we practiced trying to use this product. The lights didn't register properly when we moved it over her claw. We tried for about 15 minutes, both my husband and I, to figure out the magic position to make it work correctly, but we never felt comfortable with the readings it was giving. Our dog was incredibly patient while we played with this thing and moved it over her claw trying to get it to register appropriately, but we finally gave up and we still bring her to the vet to get her nails clipped. And it sounded like such a good idea...tricked again.

Not as advertised May 15, 2007
By S. Spreng I am very disappointed in this product. It is the nail clipper for pets that is suppose to show when it is safe to cut the nail. It does not work! Not only did the safety lights not work, but I could not even cut through the nail of my miniature Schnauzer. Sounded too good to be true and it was.
