Nice idea, but... Jan 06, 2009
By John T. Miller Great idea and looks great in the pictures and packaging, however... the handle, when retracted, doesn't really conform to the shape of the collar and stays mostly straight and awkward looking. For the price I paid, $4.99, I can live with that but retail, I think around $20, would be asking a bit much. Also, when you pull on the handle hard enough to make it work, the collar pulls so far away from the neck that an out-of-control dog could probably slip out. Also, the little name tage retainer under the handle tore, rendering itself useless, on the 1st test pull of the handle. Other than that, it's a just another good, sturdy collar.

A real disappointment Dec 29, 2009
By A. Amores I just received this item today. At first glance, it looks attractive enough. Upon closer inspection, it is a poorly made item. The manufacturers should have put more thought in quality rather than adding two decorative silver bones which adds no function to this item. The stitching is unraveling at the "leash area." The "tag" stitching also has unraveled. If I were the cynical type, I would say that the supplier knew of the unraveled stitching and tried to glue it back together but it didn't hold. Also the hidden tag is paper under a plastic sleeve. I would never trust my beloved dog to only have this as a tag. It is not waterproof nor is it secure in it's sleeve; The tag is useless. The "D" is too bulky, and as others have mention, the extra collar end just hangs there, making the collar look unfinished and shabby. The built-in leash is a great idea, but this item falls short in quality. The leash is made of some stretching rubber (kind of like a car fan belt but not as strong). I predict that this leash will break if used too often, so I am not going to rely on it in public. I'll just use it in the house. I normally would return a product like this but it probably would cost me more in time and money to ship it back, which is probably what the supplier counts on. Buyers, read the reviews carefully, cause the reviews I read were right on. I'll use it for six months, which it what I give it before it's none usable. For now I will keep looking for a similar product but with better workmanship. Fail.

good product. Sep 16, 2009
By Ryan K. Green I like the collar a lot it is very sturdy and of good quality. when I use the built in leash the collar slips off the dogs head. that might be because he is still a puppy and need to grow more though.

Great and nice looking collar Mar 04, 2009
By keysgirl I use the built in handle several times a day on my 110 lb dog and it is great. I have only had this one a few weeks but it replaced another one that was a year old and still working great it was just too big and my dog could slip out of it. It has reflective stitching that is not noticeable until it is dark out. It is surprisingly bright when light hits it! I like that it has a metal buckle instead of the squeeze clips that have broken on us before so make me nervous.
UPDATE: I have now bought a 3rd collar for an 85lb strong and stubborn foster pup and while the elastic has still held up I have noticed a lot of signs of wear on the nylon part of both dog's collars from their rough play and rolling around on the gravel in the yard. The collar looks fuzzy and one of the grommets has started to pull away from the nylon. I have tightened the collar so am using a different grommet anyway and don't think it will affect the function of the collar but it is surprising none the less! Still a good value at amazon pricing (<$10!). NOte that if you are trying to pull a stubborn dog toward you the collar needs to be pretty tight so they don't back out AND the elastic ends up in reach of their jaws. My pup is part shark and has bitten through a nylon lead so this worries me a bit but I am just careful to not let him bite it...
I would probably lower the rating to 3 or 4 stars if amazon would let me but still at the low price I would recommend this collar.

Great Idea but... Feb 26, 2009
By Catherine A. Lehosky
"The Goddess"
This collar is a great concept. Unfortunately the materials are lacking. We love the control without a leash, very handy at the Vet or taking the dog for a shampoo, anything. We have a German Shepherd and this keeps her very much under control without getting tangled in a leash. The problem is that after a few months the collar starts to fray and once it starts it gets bad quickly. The first time this happened we had boarded our dog and figured it was due to other dogs nipping at the collar. We replaced it with the same collar that we loved so much only to have it fray again. Due to a need for another collar cheap and fast we actually bought a third and yes, that one soon frayed as well. ( no other dogs involved ) Like I said great idea but it needs to be made with more durable materials or just better constructed.
