The NOT original buttoneer is useless Dec 27, 2008

WHY can't I get refills for my Buttoneer anymore? To see the eminently useful single needle gun-style buttoneer google 'buttoneer 2' and see the original ad from spiketv website. JoAnn now sells what they call "the original Buttoneer", which isn't -- the new double barrelled one is limited to short weak useless fasteners for only standard shirt buttons. In the 80's, Dennison refilled the TRUE original Buttoneer and Buttoneer 2, with strong nylon fasterners for buttons, & other lengths for home/auto repair, crafts. Ronco obviously sold the idea to JoAnn who pressed Dennison to stop making strong, useful fasteners of varied lengths. The NOT-original-buttoneer now sold really robs consumers. The blog reviews agree, but the as-seen-on-tv spammers push them so far down you never see the truth. What a great product this was and could have continued to be.

Works well Jan 27, 2006
By jedilori I bought this product a couple of years ago and I love it! It's really easy to use, and the fasteners are very sturdy; I haven't had any problems with mine. I would have to disagree with the previous reviewer's claims that it can't be used on waistbands. I use it to fix buttons on waistbands all the time and the prongs fit through the band fine - and this is on lined suit pants. The only disadvantage is that you can't use it on small buttons - the prongs are too big for the smaller holes of small buttons, so you won't be able to use it on your shirts or blouses.

Poorly constructed. Jan 02, 2006
By Laura in KC I purchased this product hoping to end my button sewing headaches. I had read a previous review which was favorable, but it stated it may take a bit of practice to master the device.
I couldn't get the buttons to fasten at first, but about the third try it worked! Unfortunately, when I tried to fasten the next button, the Buttoneer needle broke! So based on my experience- it's not worth it!

dissapointment Nov 14, 2009

when I was in the military,a button coming off could spell disaster before an inspection or during work. I told my mom about this during a phone call home.she sent me a Ronco buttoneer.with a little practice I could reattach a button in seconds.saving me a lot of extra duty hours for a uniform in need of repair.the only drawback was the limited number and colors of the fastners.I also needed OD green.I wrote Ronco.they responded telling me I could order the colored fasteners I needed.I was set for the duration of my carreer,I helped many a troop in distress.these fastners were sturdy, I never had one fail, even under combat conditions. now I have grandkids, who constantly lose buttons.I found I could no longer order fasteneers for my Ronco machine, but a new fastner machine could be had.so I obtained one,It's not at all the quality of the old one, made cheap, the fastners break easily,a total waste of time and money, unless you just use buttons for decorations and don't plan to use them. bring back the old machine !

Buttoneer has limited usefulness Jan 12, 2006
By btblue I bought it because in the pictures it looked as though waistband buttons were being attached. No such luck. The little plastic "threads" can't reach through the waistband tab of a pair of slacks -- and probably can't be used for any other attaching on heavy duty fabrics.
