It works! Jul 28, 2010 It is a great product, worked very well with my Boxer! Just be careful if you are a buyer from out of USA, because you can end up paying a lot of import tax.
Great product Jul 20, 2010 We needed something that would stop my 82 lbs german shepherd from dragging me to my knees so I decided to give this a try. I will admit he does not care for it but oh my how well he walks while using it. I bought 2 of them and have since adopted a 3rd dog and am going ot purchase one for her. I used my other one on her to test it and it was night and day. She is a 100+ Saint bernard and it controlled her so well. I would recommend this product to anyone who has a puppy or dog that you want to walk peacefuly with.
Amazing! Jul 14, 2010 There is only one word for the Gentle Leader - amazing! I have a male Boerboel (South African Mastiff) puppy. He's 10 months old now and was 6 months old when I started a formal training program with him. He's a strong an stubborn puppy and, since he's a mastiff breed, he got big and uncontrollable quickly. He's not a mean dog, but rambunctious. When I first started training, the trainer recommended a martingale collar - the kind that has almost a handle to which the ring for the lead is attached and, when the dog pulls at the collar the "handle" pulls out to tighten the collar to the exact circumference of the dog's neck (supposed to help control without choking, like a choke chain would do - those are bad!!). The martingale collar didn't help much, so she suggested a Gentle Leader.
I immediately purchased one through Amazon (yay for the great price and fast shipping thanks to Amazon Prime). It took me a bit to learn how to properly get him into this collar, but the results were immediate and just amazing! Most dogs don't like the Gentle Leader at first because it feels weird to them. They won't want to let you put it on and/or once its on they'll shove their nose into the ground or use their paw to try to pull the nose piece off. This is easily fixed by rewarded your dog with lots of pets, treats, and happy talk (Yay! Good boy!, etc.) as you're putting the collar on and giving him/her time to get used to it. Try starting with 5 minutes wearing the collar and work your way up. I, admittedly, did not use the instructions/DVD provided with the Gentle Leader. I used only my trainer's guidance. However, my dog showed immediate improvement on the Gentle Leader and I was able to quickly turn him around from a rambunctious puppy into a excitable buy controllable puppy. Literally within a week we had mastered loose leash walking without him pulling me.
For us, the Gentle Leader made all the difference in the world.
Life Changer Jul 12, 2010 After reading the instructions carefully, my very large (100#) Goldadore and I tried out the collar. In under 3 minutes, my dog was walking calmly beside me and not dragging me down the street. I was skeptical of the testimonials, and now I have become one myself. Great product! I also bought one for my small female choc lab and had the same results, although it took a little longer... maybe 10 minutes.
Not For Every Dog Jul 10, 2010 I wanted to love this head collar, as my 80# male German Shepherd is doing fine with his, but my 45# female German Shepherd managed to break hers within two weeks of purchase. She was walking very nicely on it, but faced with wanting to make contact with barking neighbor dogs it finally failed. Luckily we were on our own street, and the dogs in question were behind a fence, but it was frightening all the same. Had we been on a busy street I could have lost my dog! I wouldn't recommend this collar to anyone now.
