5Cool Bed for Hot Dog  Jul 24, 2007
We are on our third large "Canine Cooler" bed and HIGHLY recommend this product for non-chewing hot dogs.

We first bought one for our long-haired Belgian Shepherd, who ultimately reached 130lbs. He spent every night of his life going between his "hot bed" (a typical foam bed) and his "cool bed." Over the course of seven years, we only replaced the Canine Cooler once because the inner sponge has broken into pieces after years of use.

Our even-hotter Newfy puppy inherited the used Canine Cooler bed, but chewed on the corner. We taped it up with duct tape, but once he was six months old, we got him a new one and he now spends his nights going between his softer Canine Cooler cool bed and his harder - but even cooler - marble slab. (Yes, he has several big soft dog beds, but he finds them too hot to lay on for more than a minute or two unless he's wet from a bath or swim.)

Like the advertizing says, the Canine Cooler isn't cold, but it is cool and amazingly stays cool when a warm body lays on it. They sell covers for it, but we never use anything over it because it reduces the cool effect that our dogs really need. It's well worth the cost for a hot dog.

5Canine Cooler Pet Bed  Jul 10, 2006
We read the reports for these beds and saw mixed reviews about them....mainly that they leaked in a very short time. We have two Great Pyranees dogs that are about 100 lbs. each and really needed something to help them get through the hot weather in East Texas. It has been at least three months and we have not had any problems. The dogs take to them without hesitation and don't get up all stiff like they used to. I recommend them to anyone with a large dog that is more likely to have joint problems, etc. BTW, we filled it to within a half a gallon of the recommended maximum - maybe this helped minimize leakage problems. Good luck!

1Canine Cooler doesn't last. Poor seam manufacturing.  Jul 03, 2006
It works and our dog loved it but it kept failing on the seams. Customer service kept replacing it until two years were up and then they said the poor quality was our problem since they supplied new ones to cover the two year warranty. We patched the seam and then the other seam failed a few months later on the other side of our final replacement. We replaced it with a K&H COOL BED II. With such a poorly made product I don't know how the Canine cooler company will survive?

5Fantastic for Hairy Mutts!  May 24, 2006
I love these beds! I bought two several years ago and they lasted quite some time, until my puppies decided to use them as wrestling toys. I was able to patch them with standard waterbed patch kits and they lasted about another 6 months, until I finally had to give up and throw them away (they got kinda stinky). Well since the summer months are coming up I decided to buy another one and I'm so glad I did! I forgot how great these beds are. The absolute most important thing to remember is FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. Do NOT over fill these beds and keep track of how many quarts you have put into the bed! If you have an extra set of hands to help you fill, that works even better. I found the best method is to have someone hold the valve corner up at an angle, insert a plastic funnel (not metal, it might tear the bed) and begin filling. If you follow the instructions, you'll be done in no time. It might sound like a lot of trouble, but isn't your dog worth it??!!

2Great while it last - but doesn't last long!  Apr 02, 2006
In the past year I have purchased two of these cooler bed for my Akita. She loves the coolness of the bed, but the darned beds only last a few months before springing a leak! (let me add, my dog is not a digger or a chewer, so this happened under "normal" usage)

After the first bed sprung a leak and was unfixable, I swore I wouldn't waste any more money. But I gave in after a couple of months and bought a second one, thinking I'd fill it with less water, be extra careful, etc. Less than half a year later, that one sprung a leak, as well. I have heard similar stories from other frustrated buyers. Yes, my dog liked it while it lasted, but unless you are OK with buying 3 or 4 at a time so you have a replacement all ready to go when it leaks, it's just a source of aggravation. Oh yeah, and if your carpet ends up ruined in the process, as mine was, that just adds to the insult!
