looks cheap but works better than the standard kind Oct 16, 2007
By Sara E. Stewart This is a really good apple peeler. The blade is wider than in standard peelers (the red ones where you put the apple sideways) so it peels the apple faster. It peels around the top and bottom of the apple, missing only the parts right above and below the core, so after coring the apple there's no skin left--no touch-ups required. It comes with a corer, a corer/slicer, two extra blades, and little plastic covers for the blade and prongs. It's easy to clean.
The cons: It looks like it belongs in a toy chest, so if you pride yourself on your beautiful Martha Stewart kitchen you're going to want to put this away after using it rather than leave it displayed. It doesn't work well at all on potatoes--even when you cut them in half first, it still misses lots of spots and carves them into apple shapes. There are four plastic suction cups on its base to keep it from moving while you're using it, and you have to wet them to make them work. It only takes a few drops of water, though, and then they work fine.
I love mine and use it all the time. For me, the cons are outweighed by the usefulness of being able to peel, core, and slice an apple in seven seconds. I'll never go back to a sideways peeler.

A better apple peeler! Sep 26, 2007
By J. Atwell I have had the apple peeler style with the red handle for about 12 years, and when the prongs that hold the apples started to break off, I finally had an excuse to get rid of it. It had the following problems. 1: The metal screw that twisted to push the apple got black stuff all over your hands when you touched it, which was neccessary to get the apples on and off the prongs. Not something desirable when working with food. 2: To core the apples, they had to be sliced very thinly, not optimal for pies, for example. 3: It didn't work well on small or irregularly shaped apples. This clear plastic apple peeler allows you to peel the apples, then slice them however you want. It peels apples faster than the other, and it comes with a corer that doesn't require slicing, and a corer/slicer that cuts the apples into eigths. Both work well. All the tools were effective even for odd shaped apples. I'm thrilled with it! The only small flaw was that water got inside when I washed it. This was pretty easy to get around. There are a couple of screws that allow the device to be disassembled and reassembled quickly and easily. Even if the plastic or the razor don't hold up well over time, I'll happily buy 10 of these before I ever buy another of the other kind.

it really is amazing... Dec 01, 2007
By J. Sanchez I was a bit apprehensive in purchasing this item due to its whimsical appearance, but I must say I'm glad I did. It works flawlessly doing what it was meant to do, and for the price, you just can't beat it.

happy professional baker Dec 01, 2009

"keep it simple"
my husband is a longtime baker who's hands are starting to give out after years of peeling apples for our famous apple pies. This year he broke down and bought a peeler. He's tried several, but heard good things about this one. He was thrilled! he could peel a case of apples in about 15 minutes, which when we peel over 30 cases the week before thanksgiving, that's a huge help with his arthritic hands. thanks!!!

Terrific Product Jul 14, 2008

This product works! I used the pealer on approximately 80 lbs of apples of very different sizes and shapes. On occasion due to the odd shape of the apple I ran it through the peeler a second time with great results. This is tough little machine.
I chose it because I thought that it would help my 8 yr old son enjoy helping with the apple harvest and processing ordeal we go through every year. I thought he would like to watch the gears move. Well he loved it. We all loved it. I even purchased a second unit for my Mom.
The bonus core ejector not only works as an apple corer, it is a great apple gun (similar to a potato gun, just for much older kids). The bonus slicer is also handy, how ever the slices could be smaller.
I highly recommended this product.
